General Questions:

    Q: What Control Panel do you use?
    A: We use cpanel X a demo is available

    Q: Are you a member of any consumer agencies such as the Better Business Bureau's?
    A: NO, Hartlandhosting has adopted all the requirements to become members, but the bureau's require a high membership fee.

    E-mail Questions:

    Q: What is Pop 3?
    A: Pop 3 is a mail protocol for people who use programs such as MS Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL, and Netscape Mail.

    Q: Do you offer a web based E-mail?
    A: YES, Web based E-mail is included with all our plans.

    Q: What's my smtp server?
    A: mail.yourdomain.com (yourdomain would be the domain you used when signing up)

    Q: What's my Pop 3 server?
    A: mail.yourdomain.com

    FTP Questions:

    Q: What is FTP?
    A: FTP (File Transfer Protocol) FTP is an easy way to upload your files to a server.

    Q: I don't get FTP.
    A: That's ok, included with ever account is a web based file manager. We also offer a tutorial on how to use this web based file manager. Click here for Demo

    Q: ACSII / Binary I don't get what they are?
    A: If you are new to FTP two terms you will often hear about is ACSII and Binary. well here's a short explanation of what they do.
    ACSII is used primarily when transferring programs such as perl and CGI scripts.
    Bianary will be used when transferring most other files including, Images, HTML, Audio, and Video.

    Q: What are FTP Clients, where can I get one, and how much do they cost?
    A: FTP Clients programs that assist in uploading and downloading files from a server.
    There are both Free and Pro versions of most populer FTP Clients. One free type is WS_FTP and can be downloaded Here
    If you upload a lot of Perl/CGI scripts a pro client would be better suited to your needs, we recommend Igloo ProFTP that can be purchased Here

    Q: Where should I FTP files to?
    A: If you want your files to be accessed by the public you need to put your files under the folder public_html or one of the sub-folders below that.

    DNS Questions:

    Q: Why don't your plans include domain registration?
    A: Hartlandhosting is not ICANN accredited, which means we cannot register domains directly. We choose not to include registration because we cannot do it in "real time" this prevents us from being blamed for a lost domain.

    Q: What is DNS?
    A: DNS stands for "Domain Name Server" and it provides your domain with an address so that it can be accessed by anyone over the Internet

    Q: What are domain names?
    A: Domain names can be anything you want them to be as long as they are under 64 charecters. Examples would be yahoo.com, hartlandhosting.net,

    Q: What are sub-domain and why would I use them?
    A: Here is an example of a sub-domain, you.yourdomain.com and are primarily used by big corporate web site like Yahoo! for sub dividing there site into departments.

    Q: What DNS servers I use?
    A: Our DNS servers are:
    Primary       ns1.hartlandhosting.net
    Secondary   ns2.hartlandhosting.net

    Q: Where can I register my domain name?
    A: We recommend using GoDaddy Software. GoDaddy has excellent tools for domain management, and cannot be beat in price.

    Q: Why do you recommend GoDaddy Software?
    A: We recommend GoDaddy because of there reasonable prices, and there easy to use domain management.
       Hartlandhosting offers Domain Registation for $15/yr

    Billing Questions:

    Q: Will your plans ever raise in cost for me?
    A: NO, although our prices may go up in the future, customers won't have the price of there plan(s) go up. We offer a Price Freeze Guarantee, we promise that the cost of your plan will stay the same as long as you remain a customer. Which means if you sign up for our Mini Plan at $37 today, you will still pay $37 twenty* years from now.

    Q: How will I be billed?
    A: Hartlandhosting uses a recurring billing method, which means contracts will be renewed automatically unless we hear from you that you would like your account canceled.

    Q: Why do you use RevEcom to process Credit Cards?
    A: RevEcom offers a cheep, reliable, and secure way to process Credit Card orders.

    Q: How do I cancel my account?
    A: If you want to cancel your account before your contract is due for renewal, send an E-mail with your name and address to, cancel@hartlandhosting.net
    If your contract is up for renewal, simply reply to the E-mail sent to you, reminding you that your contract will be renewed with cancel in the header line.

    Perl/sendmail Questions:

    Q: What is the path to your perl interpreter?
    A: /usr/bin/perl

    Q: What is the path to your sendmail program?
    A: /usr/sbin/sendmail

    CGI Questions

    Q: My Script isn't working on your servers, Why?
    A: First check your access logs to find out what the problems is. If the message is 500 (server error) Check to make sure that your path to perl is correct, then make sure that you upload you scripts in ACSII. if that still doesn't work open your favorite perl debugger and run it there.

    SSL Questions:

    Q: Do You Support (S)ecure (S)ocket (L)ayer?
    A: Yes, Hartlandhosting Supports SSL

    Q: What costs are involved with SSL?
    A:
        1: You must purchase a certificate, visit our SSL section for more information (apx. $200/yr).Note: Certificate does NOT have to be purchased from us.
        2: Hartlandhosting Mini and Small Plans do not include with a Static IP (required for SSL) they are avaliable for an aditional $2/mo or $20/yr.
           If you purchase our Medium, Large, Ex-large, or Giga plans this cost is waved.
        3: Upload the files you recieve from your certificate provider to your /public_html folder.
        4: There is a $25 fee we charge to set-up a certificate on our servers, Contact Us and we will help install your certificate.
